Pontefract Athletics Club Open Meeting – Thorne’s Park Wakefield

Five of Kingston’s junior athletes and their families travelled over to the West Riding on Sunday the 25th of June to compete at the Pontefract Athletics Club’s open meeting which was staged at Thorne’s Park in Wakefield.
In the under 11’s age group Noah Sibary who made his debut for the club at the 2016 Kingston Spring open was running in the second of the series of 75 metres sprints. He has made excellent progress in the last 14 months and has been learning his trade in the Humber track & field League matches as well in the York Summer League and at open meetings. He made his Championship debut at this May’s County Championship meeting where he took home three gold medals in the 80 and 150 metre sprints and the 600 metres race. He was the winner of race 2 of the 75 metres race’s at Thorne’s Park where he ran a new PB of 11.55 sec clipping 8 tenths of a second off his previous best time.
Race 1 of the under 11 boy’s 75 metres saw Max Wright making his debut appearance for Kingston he had only joined one of our Junior training groups on the 12th of June and had his first competitive run out just 13 days later, he put in a creditable performance to take 3rd place and he set himself a PB of 12.34 sec.
Both of the boys saw further action in the 600 metres race where they were running in a field of 13 athletes the majority of whom had far more experience than Max and some more than Noah and included in the field was the County silver medallist Kieran Davies of Scunthorpe. Noah Sibary put on an excellent performance which saw him win the race and set a new PB of 1:45.95 sec taking 3.15 seconds off his previous best time and Max Wright took 3rd place with a great run of 1:56.09 sec to set another new PB.
In the under 11 girl’s events Imogen Kerridge who has been training at Costello for several months now made her debut appearance for the club in the shot putt event where she posted a PB with her throw of 3.10 metres.
The under15 girl’s events saw Ellie and Jess Townsend in competition both of whom have had a busy schedule this track & field season representing the junior team in the UK Youth Development League fixtures as well as the Humber Track League matches and appearances in the York Summer League. They have both been in championship action as well with Ellie taking the high jump silver medal at the County Championships and the high jump bronze at the County Schools event whilst Jess was the discus silver medallist at both the County and County Schools meetings.
At the Pontefract Open Ellie Townsend competed in the high jump and long jump events she was the winner of the high jump where she went clear at a height of 1.45 metres and took 2nd place in the long jump where she leaped to a new PB of 4.41 metres to add a further two centimetres to her old best mark.
Jess Townsend’s main focus of the day was out in the discus circle where she would encounter serious competition from Olivia Ainley of Barnsley AC the West Yorkshire Schools champion, it was a real tussle between the two girls which saw Jess coming out on top with her winning throw of 25.44 metres and Olivia throwing a new PB of 25.00 metres to take 2nd place. Jess was also in action in the second of the 100 metre races where she clipped 0.12 of a second off her old best time running a new PB of 15.78 sec.
