Under 13/Under15 – Inter Counties Track & Field Championships

Pingles Stadium, Nuneaton

Saturday 10th September 2016


The 2016 Inter Counties track & field Championships for athletes in the under 13 and under 15 age categories were staged at the Pingles Stadium in Nuneaton, Warwickshire on a wet and miserable Saturday 10th of September. Twenty two of Kingston’s young athletes were among those selected to represent the Humberside team at the Championship meeting.

At the end of the competition the organisers named their nine ‘athletes of the match’ and three of them were Kingston upon Hull athletes. All three were throwers with Shaun Kerry the under 15 boys field athlete, Holly Adams the under 13 girls field athlete and Korben Pratt the under 13 boys field athlete.

The Six Counties contesting the match were Warwickshire who were the winners with a total of 560.5 points, 2nd  place went to Leicestershire & Rutland with 500.5 and 3rd to Nottinghamshire with 471.5, Derbyshire were 4th on 443.5 and Humberside 5th with 435.0 points and 6th were South Yorkshire on 427.0 points.

The performance details for all the Kingston athletes are as follows.

Under 15 Boys

100 & 200 metres Sprint races

The 100 metre races saw Shaun Kerry running the ‘A’ race where he took 5th place clocking a time of 12.73s. In the ‘B’ Brody Hinson took 2nd place and he ran a time of 12.20s.

Brody Hinson was the ‘A’ runner in the 200 metres and the County sprints champion ran a time of 25.22s for a 5th place finish. The ‘B’ runner was Sam Croney who ran a new PB of 25.57s, clipping 1.73 seconds off his previous best time to, take 2nd place.

In the 800 metres ‘B’ race Joe Seed produced his best performance of the season, taking almost 4 tenths of a second off his best time and claiming 2nd place for the team with a new PB of 2:14.81s.

Sam Croney saw further action in the 80 metres hurdles his specialist event, the Northern silver medallist took 4th place in the ‘A’ race where he ran a time of 12.22s.

Tyler Thompson made his County debut at Nuneaton competing in the high jump ‘B’ event his clearance at a height of 1.45m gave him 5th place in the competition.


Shaun Kerry was involved in two further events this time in his own domain out in the field. The shot competition saw the County champion and Northern silver medallist take victory with a big throw of 12.83m, 1.76 metres in front of the 2nd placed athlete. Next up was the javelin competition where Shaun took 2nd place with his throw of 39.16m.

Under 15 Girls

Kate Huntington represented the County in both of the sprints ‘A’ races. The 100 metres race saw her running a time of 13.32s for a 5th place finish and a second 5th place followed in the 200 metres where Kate clocked a time of 28.02s. Both of these races produced the best times she has run under electronic timing.

The 800 metres ‘A’ race brought the Northern silver medallist Jodie Martin into the action and her run of 2:35.97s gave her a 5th place finish.

The 75 metres hurdles race saw Abbie Haigh running the ‘A’ and she produced her fastest electronic time of 13.42s for 6th place. In the ‘B’ race Emily Dye took 5th place with her run of 14.12s.

Emily Dye was in further competition in the long jump where she took 5th place in the ‘B’ with her leap of 4.18m.

Out in the throwing circle Indigo Atkin joined the action as the ‘A’ thrower in the shot event where her effort of 8.51m saw her take 5th place. Faye Oliver was the ‘B’ thrower and she threw a new PB of 7.39m to take 6th place.

The javelin competition saw the Northern champion Becky Chivers in the ‘A’ event where she took 4th place with her throw of 27.79m. Indigo Atkin was the ‘B’ competitor and she launched the javelin out to 24.33m to claim 3rd place.

Faye Oliver was the teams representative in the discus competition where she threw in the ‘A’ event, her effort of 20.40m gave her a 5th place finish.

Under 13 Boys

The 100 metres races saw two young athletes make their County debuts Junior Agostinho ran in the ‘A’ race where he claimed 6th place and recorded a time of 14.23s. Owen Robinson went in the ‘B’ and his run of 14.82s saw him also finish in 6th place.

Adam Fox represented the team in the 200 metres ‘A’ race where he took 6th place and ran a time of 28.28s.

Junior Agostinho was also involved in the 75 metre hurdles event where he ran in the ‘A’ race taking 4th place and clocking a time of 14.81s. Jack Singleton made his debut appearance for the County in the ‘B’ race where he finished 5th and ran a time of 15.37s.

The long jump competition saw Fabian Vidal making his County debut he jumped in the ‘A’ competition where he took 5th place with his leap of 4.07m. Connor Pickering went in the ‘B’ and he claimed 3rd place with his jump of 4.04m.

The shot event saw one of Kingston’s newest recruits Korben Pratt make a winning start on his County debut, throwing a new PB of 10.30m in the ‘A’ event. Connor Pickering made it a double victory winning the ‘B’ with his throw of 8.88m.

Under 13 Girls

The Northern indoor champion and County champion Holly Adams kept up the impressive form she has been showing throughout her 2016 campaign, throwing a big new PB of 9.60m in the shot ‘A’ to notch up yet another victory.

County hurdles and high jump champion Lauren McClean made her Inter Counties debut in the 70 metres hurdles race finishing in 5th place in a time of 13.29s just three tenths of a second outside her PB. She was also in action in the high jump competition where she finished in equal 3rd place with a clearance at a height of 1.25m.
